Seminars
Seminars form a distinguishing feature of the economics
curriculum taught at the Erasmus School of Economics as compared to other Dutch
universities. The seminar is a specific and intensive teaching method
that pairs the student’s active participation and commitment with a
steep learning curve.
The seminars offered by the Finance Group carry a high
study load and are highly appreciated by our students (as reflected by
the students’ evaluations). The objective of our seminars is:
§
to
provide insight into the theoretical and practical aspects of a wide
range of financial-economic topics (where the topics depend on the
particular seminar);
§
to
enhance the skills necessary to analyze case assignments, plan and
conduct empirical research, and report and present research findings.
Active participation is central to the seminars and means
that you will present pieces of the literature and case solutions,
formulate discussion points, ask questions, mention doubts and exchange
ideas in plenary class discussions.
The body of knowledge that you gain from actively
participating in our seminars is indispensable as a preparation for our
master in Financial Economics. In addition, by focusing on writing
skills and advanced financial concepts, our seminars provide ample
preparation for writing the bachelor’s thesis. This thesis takes the
form of an individual paper on a subject in one of the fields of the
Financial Economics major. The thesis is written under close supervision
of one of our staff members.
